MORE INFORMATION ================ The Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver v2.0 is part of the Microsoft Data Access Components v1.5. You will need to download this "stack" from the Microsoft Web site and install them. NOTE: There is no way to acquire the Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver v2.0 outside of the MDAC 1.5 stack. The driver was developed and tested with the components in the stack and that is the best way to install and use the driver. Step-by-Step Example -------------------- 1. Go to the Microsoft Universal Data Access Web site at http://wwww.microsoft.com/data. 2. On the Web site, click the "Free Downloads" link listed under "Contents" on the left of the page. This gives you a page that lists the available free downloads. 3. Click the link titled "Download the Microsoft Data Access Components 1.5 Release," to bring up the download page for the MDAC 1.5 stack. Please read through the information on this page pertaining to system and software requirements. 4. Click the link titled "License Agreement (MS Word format, 34 Kb)" if you wish to read the licensing agreement before you download and register the MDAC 1.5 stack. NOTE: You will be able to read the license agreement during the installation of the MDAC 1.5 stack. 5. Click on the link titled "Register and Download MDAC 1.5 (New October 6, 1997)." 6. Once you have registered, you will get the download page entitled "Select your operating system to begin downloading MDAC 1.5." Select the appropriate download to begin the download process will result in a .exe file being downloaded to your system. 7. Run the .exe file to start the installation of the MDAC 1.5 stack. 8. Click the "Custom" installation button when you are prompted to select which type of installation you would like to perform. This will give you a list of components to install. 9. To install the Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver v2.0, check and highlight the component "Data Sources." Then click the button "Show Subcomponents." This will bring up the list of ODBC drivers that will be installed. 10. Check the box labeled "Oracle" to install the Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver v2.0. 11. Click OK, and then continue with the rest of the MDAC 1.5 installation. NOTE: At the bare minimum, the MDAC 1.5 installation will install ODBC 3.5 and ADO 1.5 along with any other components you select. Please research the information found at http://www.microsoft.com/data to find out more information about these components and their installation. 12. Once the MDAC 1.5 installation is complete, you should see the Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver v2.0 listed under the drivers tab of your ODBC Manager as: NAME: Microsoft ODBC for Oracle VERSION: 2.73.726900 COMPANY: Microsoft Corporation FILE: MSORCL32.DLL DATE: 9/26/97 For information about setting up a DSN for the Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver v2.0, please consult the Help file for the driver. The Help file for the driver was installed in the appropriate SYSTEM directory (i.e. SYSTEM for Windows 95 and SYSTEM32 for NT) along with the driver DLL. The name of the Help file is MSORCL32.HLP.
